News editors are part of NABET (National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians). The union has been fighting a losing war with the networks and there have been many changes for the worse. The editor used to choose the footage, now the writer picks the clips and indicates them on the script. The upshot? Many editors (and others) have broadened their scope and become hyphenates.
