It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Editors are always looking for ways to make their editing workflow faster and more efficient, and one way of doing that is by putting the many keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro to good use. One key that does a ton of useful and powerful things is the Alt/Option key, and in this tutorial from Premium Beat, Jason Boone shows you all the ways you can use Alt/Option in Premiere to speed up your editing process.

This time last year, while on the press circuit for Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker had one project to remain tight-lipped about, with the director’s follow-up feature, the unusual and elegant sci-fi pic Arrival; and now, with the conclusion of production on Blade Runner 2049 in Budapest, he has another.

With Apple having gone all-in on USB-C, it’s no surprise that third-party manufacturers are scrambling to meet demand for compatible accessories – but LaCie is no stranger to the new port. The company began offering USB-C drives back in 2015, recently announced drives using the same super-speed SSDs used in the new MacBook Pro and has today announced USB-C versions of two of its most popular drives...

Nominated for six Golden Globes, the stunningly beautiful, brilliantly executed Moonlight was one of 2016's best films. We've spoken to composer Nicholas Brittell, breakout star Janelle Monáe and cinematographer James Laxton about how they helped bring director Barry Jenkins film to life. The story, tracking three periods of time in one young man's life—as a child, a teenager and a grown man—was based on the play by Tarell Alvin McCraney called "In Moonlight Black Boys Like Blue."

Writer-director Kenneth Lonergan famously spent years in the editing suite trying to achieve perfection on his previous movie Margaret. He shot the film in 2005, delivered a much debated cut in 2008 and three years later watched the picture open in two theaters. Lonergan's comeback effort Manchester by the Sea represents an astonishing return to form, widely expected to land a Best Picture Oscar nomination on the strength of Casey Affleck's moving performance as a New England man haunted by his ...

There has always been plenty of winging about the lack of Apple’s commitment to professionals but throughout my career I’ve been able to look at what Apple is doing and see where they are taking us. It has always excited me but for the first time I’m a little concerned, so it’s a good time to throw a few solutions into the ether and hope that one or two find their way to the Apple development teams. Here we go…
