It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Last February I shared a video of editor Eddie Hamilton talking at an Avid event about his career and how he worked his way through two drastically different editing experiences, Kick-Ass and X-Men First Class. A reader commented, wondering what was all the fuss about editors, since they seemed to him to be technicians doing what they were asked to by the (real artistic force behind a movie) director.

The ALE format has not really kept up with changes in Media Composer that have been going on with the past several releases. While ALE still has limitations to be aware of when using custom columns and such as discussed here, the ALE header is the subject of this blog, and what you need to know when importing/exporting for different needs.

I love my 2016 MacBook for a variety of reasons, but there are still some areas where its Core M processor struggles to keep up. When it comes to exporting 4K video, the MacBook shines due to Intel Quick Sync Video hardware encoding. Editing 4K video, however, is much more taxing on the MacBook, especially when employing various effects and color correction.

As is the case with many consumer technologies, the Japanese have been at the forefront of many of the developments that we consider to be ubiquitous. While the U.S. started broadcasting in high definition in 1993, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation began experimenting with a high-resolution broadcast in 1964. For many of today's consumers, HD content is old news. The future of film and television is 4K and it's here to stay.

Adobe released the Adobe Premiere Pro 2015.3 update onto the world in late June and I was smack-dab in the middle of a project. This was a longterm project with no end in sight but I updated anyway. Partially because I had used the beta and it was nice and stable but partly because I The post Kicking the tires on Proxy Editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3 appeared first on ProVideo Coalition.
