It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Just when an editor thought that his or her desktop couldn’t look any better, LG introduces this gorgeous 34″ 21:9 monitor. The LG UltraWide Monitor LG 34UM95 has a look that is breathtaking, and I will be envious of anyone who has one of these babies to edit with.

Even though film stock is no longer popularly used, people still want their videos to have that iconic film look. Third-party plugins give you the tools to create the film look you want directly in your NLE of choice. This week in DSLR Video Tips, Rich and Robbie show how to use plugins from two popular vendors to transform your video footage with a stylized film look with plugins.

We’ll take a look at the built-in 3D capabilities of the application. We will learn how to create lights, cameras, and 3D layers. We’ll also learn how to use Depth-of-Field and how to apply 3D-specific effects. And finally we’ll explore Motion Tracking, Footage Stabilization, and 3D Camera Tracking.

Even if you don't use HitFilm 2 Ultimate for its editing or compositing capabilities you can still use it to build up your own custom "Elements" toolkit.

SGO, the maker of the Mistika post-production system tapped by Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post to make The Hobbit trilogy, is working with Dolby to support the new Dolby Vision format. Presumably this means that that Dolby Vision versions of Star Wars Episode VII and The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies are at least being considered.

“I’m scared, Spock,” Captain Kirk says to his hyperlogical space pal halfway through his four-minute death scene in “Star Trek Into Darkness.” It’s heavy. Eyes are brimming with tears. The score swells mournfully. Kirk dies. Spock yells. Cue confrontation with the bad guy, a spaceship destroying half of San Francisco and a huge climactic finale.

About a month ago, I stumbled across a website called Fiverr (pronounced 5’er). Fiverr is a platform where people offer to perform all kinds of tasks for the tiny fee of five dollars. Need a logo designed? A jingle? Five hundred likes on Facebook? These are all services offered by sellers on Fiverr. And yes, they have editors too. For only $5 you can have your project edited on this platform.

After watching the tutorial I am far better versed in the frame rate that I usually avoid like the plague…25p ! This video was an eye opener and although made for the American market there are PAL references throughout the video.

Korg have a pretty good pedigree when it comes to iOS apps with iPolySix, iMS-20 and iElectribe already in the portfolio and a hit with users. I was intrigued when I saw the release of their new app Gadget which houses 15 synths and drum machines of varying types and a pretty well spec’d sequencer and mixer. Was is it just a gimmick or is it really rather good? Let’s find out!
