It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Poor old Fugly H.264, that brown paper bag wearing misfit is getting pushed out the door as the ugly lights are turned on. You’re going home with a new partner that H.265 in the corner you have had your eye on all night. High Efficiency Video Coding HEVC or MPEG-H Part 2 is the follow up to H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC Advanced Video Coding standard for video compression.

Sometimes you may see that people are working on their Outlook mailbox even when there is no connectivity with the Internet. This can bring a question in your mind that how is it possible to work with an email client when there is no internet connectivity.

A lot has changed tech-wise in the last couple years when it comes to post-production needs. Things you used to think you needed to edit a movie (a giant, souped-up Mac Pro tower with a large, convoluted RAID system), are no longer necessary. So what exactly do you need nowadays to really get stuff done? Well, I run a full-on FCPX/DaVinci Resolve setup now in a couple different configurations at my company, We Make Movies: Post. It’s definitely not your traditional pro edit setup at this point...

David Skeggs, Workflow Designer at root6, considers the uptake of LTFS and asks – what’s not to like? LTFS (Linear Tape File System) was introduced just over two years ago and, during that time, has provoked considerable discussion within our industry. I guess the first question to ask is what was the idea behind it? I don’t think it’s fair to say its introduction was to replace.TAR and .PAX file formats which were traditionally used by tape archive/backup software, but rather that it...
