Article Humour Video Blog Audio Industry News Site News Tutorial Press Release Events

To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

I have to admit I never really understood the Softube Console 1 until I started to use it. I remember the first time I saw it last year and I couldn’t help thinking to myself, oh another control surface, it’s not like we don’t already have too many of them and I have never been a huge fan of those kind of things.

Fabrizio Fracassi left Final Cut Pro when Apple made a left turn back in 2011 with the release of Version 10. Happily, Apple addressed the criticism it received from that release and Fabrizio is back in the fold.

The director Neil Labute once said about film editing: "Together, you and your editor fashion something new and fresh from a pile of celluloid. Without question, it is here that I now feel that one's real film is born."

All is Lost producer on finding the perfect sound

February 28, 2014, 01:42 PM

http://www.pennlive.com/entertainment/index.ssf/20...

As producer, part of Dodson's job was recruiting the perfect sound editing team for the film, which is now available on DVD. It was a critical task, as the movie features little dialogue from Redford, so the sounds of the storm, the wind, the waves and the boat act as characters in themselves. Most of those sounds would be added and created in post production.

To 4K or Not to 4K - A PVC Roundtable Discussion

February 28, 2014, 10:42 AM

http://provideocoalition.com/pvcexclusive/story/to...

Various members of the ProVideo Coalition weigh in with their opinions around 4K. Do professionals need to shoot, edit and deliver at 4K because of the perceived benefits? Do consumers want to watch something at 4K because they're really able (or think they're able) to tell the difference between 4K and HD? Or should moving to 4K (and eventually 8K) just be accepted as inevitable?
