To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

New AMD FirePro workstation advanced workflows

December 10, 2012, 02:56 PM

http://www.definitionmagazine.com/journal/2012/12/...

Assimilate Scratch v6 users can now use AMD’s new FirePro W8000 and V7900-SDI graphics cards. The performance is due to GPU acceleration performance and the low-latency frame synchronisation between AMD FirePro W-series graphics cards and third-party SDI I/O hardware. Scratch v6 users should also benefit from the monitoring and colour accuracy required for colour grading and final conform stages.

wondering about longterm archiving

A digital video file is a bunch of 0's and 1's. Let's assume that the file data can be preserved for a very long time. Hard disk drives have short lives, but they can pass the data on to other storage media. I'm wondering what format (codec and container format) to make a digital video file today so it has the best chance of being readable 20, 50, or 100 years from now.

I just spent some time going through all of the feature requests that we’ve received over the past year. This post consists of two parts: first, some notes about the feature requests from last year that we were able to incorporate into After Effects CS6 (including in some recent updates); second, a list of the top feature requests for this year, with some notes about each.

Love or hate Flight, I don't think there will be many out there that didn't at the very least enjoy the first 30 minutes or so and weren't jolted to attention with the film's dramatic crash sequence. Today the New York Times is taking a closer look at the editing of the sequence, which includes the above image, which previews a look at what six minutes of the film looks like in the AVID editing system. Give the picture a click for a much larger and detailed version.

Sun News Network Relies on Avid Technology

TORONTO— Sun News Network provides approximately 96 hours of original content per week, ranging from breaking news to talk. The launch of Sun News last year presented some very demanding live production requirements. Exemplary operation with earlier Avid systems here—including Unity, NewsCutter, Media Manger, ControlAir and AirSpace—gave us the confidence to choose Avid to achieve our additional goals.
