It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Coolest-gadgets.com reports that while 3D movies are a big deal, people are either in love with it, or hate it. For those of you that are fond of this type of viewing experience, there are a variety of different products ranging from cameras to televisions that have heavy emphasis on this aspect. For the cinematic world, you can’t just watch a 3D movie without sporting some silly looking glasses, but it’s always a game of chance finding a pair that isn’t scratched up or gross from being us...

I have a tip on how to keep track on all the demos and interesting plug-ins out there. To keep a better overview on my installed demos for plugins and software, I placed a whiteboard next to my desk, on which I can keep track of every demo I install, including the expiration date.

If you’ve ever searched for a job as a video editor I bet you’ve come across a motion graphics artist position labeled as one on accident. The professions sit next to each other like books in a library. They are quite different despite starting with the same numbers in this fictitious Dewey Decimal System.

The creation of sound is a very specific area of production requiring unique skills that can take time to learn through practise. Some people like myself take part in University courses to help get the skills and knowledge required to perform to the exacting standards required of the industry. I have a Masters Degree in Sound Design.

It's not every day when you find an editor from Pixar lending out a helping hand to a British master of social realism. But that's exactly what happened when director Ken Loach released an appeal through ScreenDaily to secure some "numbering tape," to finish editing his most recent feature Jimmy's Hall.

Many times I get asked what the different columns do in Media Composer as far as logging metadata and how one column may be better than another for a certain workflow. A very useful document has been updated to reflect changes with Media Composer v7 and also has a quick primer on the ALE header specification for different project types.
