It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The practice of installing new software on a DVD is going the way of the dinosaur. Top software companies are moving away from physical installation disks to an online cloud-based download system. Adobe is leading the charge with Adobe Creative Cloud. Creative Cloud is an ongoing membership that lets you download and install all of the Adobe Creative Suite 6 software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop Extended, After Effects, Audition, SpeedGrade, Prelude, Illustrator, and Flash Professio

One factor that drove our adoption of the Signiant solution were requests from several of our large studio customers that also have existing investments in Signiant. The software provides powerful security, management and control of automated file exchanges between 2G Digital and clients with Signiant agents, speeding such tasks as the processing of raw content, adding...

Sony's Vegas Pro 12 was released a few weeks ago, and in my opinion, this is the most substantial update the application has seen between major releases in the last few years.

In the past, the sheer horsepower of our computers was far less, so much so, that most computers could only play back video using smaller image sizes or lower frame rates. (Anyone remember watching computer videos that were 320x240? I remember building a business where the only videos we could create were that size.)

To guess at the kinds of storage options Mac buyers will likely have in 2013 and 2014, you just have to look at the storage industry as a whole. That’s because Apple is relatively conservative when it comes to storage: It doesn't break new ground in the same way it does in, say, displays.

Ken Burns' name is eternally tied to the American historical documentary. Ask anyone what they think of when you mention his name, and they'll refer to the Ken Burns Effect, that technique he employs in all his films whereby the camera pans sideways over a photo and then zooms in. Accompanied by a charming musical score and folksy narration, the photo unarguably comes to life.

In this episode of The Rough Cut, I sit down with editor Jeff Ford on the set of Iron Man 3. Having just edited The Avengers, Jeff has lots to share about editing a blockbuster film and how that differs from cutting smaller independent films such as One Hour Photo. Have you ever taken an acting class or learned the craft of screenwriting? Jeff tells you why you should. All that and more on this edition of The Rough Cut.
