It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

White wine goes with fish and red wine goes with meat. But some new research from the Crossmodal Research Laboratory at the University of Oxford has apparently unearthed evidence of an implicit relationship between what we eat and what we hear -- between taste and pitch, as Scientific American reports.

Last week I had the opportunity to sit down with some of the team from G-Tech who wanted to know my thoughts on product design. One question they asked me was what features could they add to make their drives more useful.

In a very open Oscar race for Best Original Score, Marco Beltrami's compositions for Tommy Lee Jones' western "The Homesman" may well find themselves in the final five. He has earned two previous nominations somewhat unexpectedly ("3:10 to Yuma" and "The Hurt Locker") and his latest endeavor very much set the mood of Jones's progressive period piece.

Casting a quick glance at some major contenders for sound awards this season, one finds a war film, an entry in a sci-fi franchise, a murder mystery and a musical fairy tale. The pros behind these pics say the challenge was making each soundscape believable, dynamic and — most important — understandable.

Elastic Audio is Pro Tools’ real time timestretch, very like Logic’s flextime, Cubase’s audio warp and the similar features found in Ableton and Studio One. In Pro Tools elastic audio has to be enabled on a per track basis. Five algorithms are available suitable for different types of material:

At its best, film can take viewers to new worlds or reveal truths about ones they thought they knew. This year, composers from all over this world have undertaken those journeys with Oscar-contending scores, from a trip to far-flung reaches of space with earthbound instruments to the unexpected innovation of a grueling trek across the American frontier.
