To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

What Is The Best Adobe After Effects CC Effect?

What? Did you think I was going to say Pixel Polly? Pixel Polly kicks ass when you need it but nothing has changed motion graphics more than Cineware. Cineware is a bridge between Adobe After Effects and Maxon Cinema 4D. Basically, you get native support of .c4d files and Cinema 4D's render engine right in After Effects allowing you to skip rendering in Cinema 4D and go straight to compositing in After Effects CC. Cineware is free. No need to purchase another third party plugin.

Increase Client Satisfaction with Creative Briefs

If you’ve been a professional creative for more than a year, chances are at some point you’ve had a client not entirely happy with the final product. That’s bound to happen in your career, regardless of what amount of prep you do ahead of time. But it’s unfortunate and unnecessary if it happens due to a breakdown in communication or unmet expectations. It’s for that reason that years ago I started using a video brief (also known as a creative brief).

At least three different editors in various locations on the planet were able to do their editing tasks using DaVinci Resolve 11 via a shared hierarchy. Adjustments could be made from any workstation through a MacMini server that connected all the users, and the resulting metadata transferred via cat 7 Ethernet to everyone involved.

Feast for the Eyes: Confessional Baking, Motherhoo

Food is a rich cultural signifier and storytelling device, both ripe for fetishization and so familiar that we often overlook its cinematic affect. In Feast for the Eyes, we seek to chart the gastronomic iconography of the screen, move forward from simple fantasies of edibility, and ponder instead the depths of narrative, character and theme that a simple pastry can encode between its buttery layers. From Chocolat to Chef (see this menu explication from Roy Choi himself), from Tarantino to Miyaz...

Thoughts on OS X Yosemite

http://www.loopinsight.com/2014/07/02/thoughts-on-...

I’ve taken much longer to write about OS X Yosemite than any other modern Mac operating system that I can remember. Part of the reason for the delay is that I’m quite taken with the new design and wanted to see if I like it over the long term, but I also think this is one of the most important OS X releases ever.
