It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Earlier this week, Apple released OS X 10.9.4 with various enhancements and bug fixes for wake-from-sleep and WiFi connectivity. In addition to those fixes, many professional video editors who use Mac Pros are reporting that graphics rendering and performance issues found in the preceding OS X 10.9.3 have been resolved.

With the latest release of Adobe CC 2014, Adobe added the ability to easily create DCP directly from Premiere Pro CC or Adobe Media Encoder CC. The Wraptor plug-in is provided by Quvis. This is exciting news for indie filmmakers looking to create a DCP screening copy for festivals or screen a work in progress in a theatre. Being mainly a Media Composer user, this was great news and DCP output from Media Composer has been a long time request from the Avid community.

In the preceding article in this series (part 3) I reviewed human cataloguing methods, especially where each asset is entered manually one at a time. In this piece, I will consider batch cataloguing and using metadata from supply chain partners.

Apple's WWDC 14 was a massive event with many interesting talking points and implications as our team examined. Although Apple has been relatively quiet on the hardware front since the launch of the all-new Mac Pro in late 2013, it is now very clear that it has been doing anything but standing still. iOS has become Apple's flagship operating system, by virtue of the massive success of the devices that the OS powers.

This new Panasonic GH4 may very well become my favorite compact camera for video. When considering the GH4 vs Canon 5d mark III debate, even though the GH4 only sports a Micro Four Thirds sensor, the quality is still first class.
