It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If you want to work, then you need the gear. Music production equipment is by no means cheap, and we often find ourselves making hard decisions and going without in order to try and build a collection of equipment that makes us useful to as many people as possible.

I’m not an early adopter, I’ve always been happy to remain comfortably behind the times. With music, books, films and the like I’ve always thought that if something is any good, I’ll hear about it eventually.

No matter how attached you are to your DAW, one day you'll likely need to transfer your project to another app. Joe Albano shows how to transfer from Logic Pro to Pro Tools and back again!

I got my hands on the new Mac Pro this week, it’s hard not to be wooed by the cute (it’s very small) little powerhouse, it was an almost religious experience for this Mac fanboy.

Just kidding. We at Dolby won’t get to give an Oscars acceptance speech this year (though our company and employees have won a few Academy Awards in the past). Nonetheless, we were very proud when the Oscar nominations were announced this morning.

Every once in a while, I see some very odd comments about audio file formats. I just read a comment to an article about high-resolution files suggesting that that FLAC compresses the dynamic range of files.

The team at Designing Sound runs a vitally important resource for insightful, original sound articles, guides and news from and for the sound community. But it’s pretty rare that that we actually get to hear about the work and thoughts the team pours into this unique resource.

We were particularly pleased to see the response from both users and our industry partners who got right behind the vote from our list of key audio products of 2013. Congratulations to the winners and all those that made our 2013 shortlist, thanks to the many thousands who voted!
