It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I wanted to follow up my review of HitFilm Pro 2017 with a look at the two products that come as part of the Studio bundle. In this article we’re going to look at Ignite Pro, which can be purchased as part of the Studio bundle or on its own for $199. Alright, here we go!

I’m not an editor by trade; I typically don’t make my living editing video for others. In the course of producing content, though, I’m called on, from time to time, to edit pieces. I generally cut shorter-form promotional, training, marketing and corporate pieces. I learned to edit almost 20 years ago on Apple’s Final Cut Pro. Back in the late 1990s, I was a beta tester in the earliest days of the application.

It is significantly more expensive than its non-pro iMac siblings — the iMac Pro starts at $4999, but most configurations will cost significantly more. But make no mistake — if you buy one of these, you’re getting true professional performance for your money. You’re not just getting (admittedly gorgeous) space black anodized aluminum.

The year was 1976. The place was the New York brownstone of editor Ralph Rosenblum, ACE. And the film was Woody Allen’s Annie Hall, released the following year to wide acclaim and four Oscar wins. One day after work, Allen and Susan E. Morse, ACE — later his main editor, then an assistant editor — found themselves leaving the cutting room at about the same time.

A sound editor before he transitioned to picture editing, Dunkirk‘s Lee Smith has spent decades honing his ability to produce an elevated cinematic experience for the eye and for the ear. That immersive experience with sound has been critical for the two-time Oscar nominee when it’s come to the films of Christopher Nolan, one of those filmmakers who is keeping the process of shooting on film, as well as the theatrical experience of viewing films, alive.
