It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Grace is a film editor in the dark heart of 80s London. She’s tightly wound, but loves her job. Low budget exploitation films, horror flicks - it doesn’t matter. But something is wrong.

A question many creatives often ask me is: "Is my work good enough? Do I have what it takes to be an author, or painter, or musician, or dancer, or teacher, or innovator?" Such questions are well-intended, no doubt. Those who ask are truly questioning the value of their writing, of their artwork,...

For the second straight year, French post-production house Xtrem Productions covered the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance car race using Apple’s Final Cut Pro X video editing software on Thunderbolt-enabled Mac computers. Using footage from multiple trackside and handheld cameras, the company produced driver interviews, race highlights, and features for TV broadcast and theatrical release. “Things are easier to do in Final Cut Pro X, and they’re much faster, which means we can not only do...

While the arts emphasize their open-ended process and sometimes vague articulations importance to define the natural sciences, although it has long been largely speculative act, is still considered the experiment based on inductive method. The concept of this seems to indicate an experimental origin of the two spheres, the distinction is essential to maintain.

Apple detailed some of the specs, and even showed off prerelease versions of the hardware to attendees at its annual developers conference earlier this month, but there are still many unknowns as to just what Apple will put inside the machine -- details that have a dramatic impact on what it costs to buy one.

When I started playing around with Magic Lantern RAW video, two things came to mind: First, a camera called the “5D” was once again the nucleus of a low-budget cinematographic revolution — this time thanks to the Magic Lantern team; Second, how was I ever going to be able to edit what I’d shot? I’ve learned a lot since then, and it turns out an offline/online, proxy-based workflow is not only possible, but powerful. Check out the process that I’ve been using to round-trip Magic Lante...
