It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Here’s my animation of Guy from DreamWorks Animation’s “The Croods” (2013) which earned me an Annie Award. I added a few acting tests and expression development test up front. These were done early in production to help explore both the character as well as the rig requirements.

For as long as humans have crawled upon the surface of the earth we have held a fascinated with art and motion. Early cave drawings show that even primitive man would try to give the illusion of movement by posing the limbs on their animal sketches.

... In a far-ranging conversation, [Disney Studio chairman Alan] Horn touched upon a number of Disney’s most prized franchises. At the top of that list was Disney’s breakout Frozen, now the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Horn told his audience that Disney’s sole focus at the moment was getting the Frozen musical ready for Broadway and that a sequel hadn’t even been discussed.

As a creative, you'll often have a favourite font or two that are your go-to choices when it comes to designing your latest project. Typographers often take inspiration from previous offerings and this series from Paris based designer Mr Crosmo sees fonts such as Garamond, Baskerville and Din combine into one single typeface.

Who is too old for animation? This is the question posed in a packed animation day on April 26th (11.00-15.30) presented by the IFI in collaboration with Animation Skillnet and the answer is definitively nobody! But this day is a great chance to explore what the differences are in animation for adults and animation for children, and will give plenty to think about for both animators and everyone with an interest in visual culture and storytelling.

... Toys, dolls, and clothes have always been a big part of strategy at Disney, the world’s largest licensing company. Even so, it’s hit an unexpected merchandise jackpot with Elsa, the Snow Queen of Arendelle, and her ice gown. “It took everyone by surprise worldwide,” says Stephen Berman, chief executive officer at Jakks Pacific (JAKK), a manufacturer that sells to chains such as Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) and Target (TGT). “This is a new Disney princess franchise.
