To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Are we too sensitive about image noise?

September 28, 2021, 08:42 AM

Replay: Feature films of days gone past were really quite grainy compared to the pictures produced by a modern digital camera. We didn't complain too much then and just accepted it as part of the look. Should we be placing less emphasis on noise if it means a more emotionally resonant picture is produced?

Building your own editing PC – a complete guide

September 28, 2021, 08:42 AM

Building my own editing PC was always something I thought was just a little but outside of my abilities, but I was wrong. I’ve always admired those who built their own workstation. I’ve never been a gamer, at least not since the Atari and ZX Spectrum days of the 1980s, so I’d never watched any [...]Read More...

From studying the polls, I would guess that about a third of the American people at any given moment would welcome a fascist state. Gore Vidal, 1975 DB here: For American conservatives, Hollywood is a prime villain, coarsening the culture and spreading liberal propaganda. Yet when Reagan promised to veto tax-increase legislation, he quoted Dirty […]

2D films are actually very 3D

September 25, 2021, 10:21 AM

https://www.redsharknews.com/2d-films-are-actually...

3D films are a strange phenomenon, one that has ebbed and flowed in popularity throughout the history of cinema. I remember attending the Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and being assured that within 12 months all films would be made exclusively in 3D. Yet the bubble burst, and though 3D films are still with us (or were, when cinemas were open) they have fallen far from their Avatar popularity peak.
