It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

How many misunderstandings occur when someone says (or writes) an inappropriate word or term? How often are people confused by this practice? Does it remind you of the Tower of Babel mentioned in the Bible? In this article, I’ll share five examples of this to cover: 2×4, 24p, 30p, billion and podcast. I’m sure there [...]Read More...

If you use effects in your editing timeline (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t), then you’ve come across Boris FX’s Continuum package at some point. Boris Continuum Complete has dropped the Boris and Complete and now simply refers to the package as Continuum 2021. However, they really need to add the Complete back to the [...]Read More...

The Best Title Sequences of 2020 It’s been a year like no other. A year when so many of us turned to screens to connect or, indeed, to disconnect; when we ached for a dollop of entertainment, a moment of escape or a dose of comfort, for something familiar or something completely new. This year, for Art of the Title’s seventh annual list of the year’s top 10 title sequences, we’re doing something new. We reached out to our community to pull in new voices and to expand the team that ...

As many people are going to be working remotely for the foreseeable future, it’s important to find ways to keep teams engaged and up to date. Just because you’re not able to be in the same office doesn’t mean things like training should get neglected.

When to hold back ☛ One of the basic tenets of the industry that has grown up to help screenwriters with their scripts is: make your story as emotional engaging as possible. It’s not bad advice: well-written, emotionally impactful scenes cost the same to shoot as averagely written ones; but they can make the difference […]

If you’ve been using Adobe video applications for a long time it’s easy to miss new features that arrive in the age of the Creative Cloud subscription. Here is my review on the PD–70 dynamic studio microphone. For the human voice, it sounds great, isolates well and even looks great too, especially at ≈US$130. I love the included —and already installed— windscreen which not only enhances its visual appearance, but also is as pop-proof as the “presidential” A81WS windscreen I have covered [...]Read More...
