It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Creating animation actions can help simplify your animation workflow. In this tutorial by Victor Paredes, an animator from Chile, he'll show you how to import a vector graphic in MOHO, add some bones to it, create some actions and easily animate a head turning. This is a simple yet effective technique that can also be used in many other animation applications.

The Pixar Post reports that the studio has announced their next short film and its director. It looks like Dave Mullins, who has worked as an animator in nearly every Pixar movie since 2001’s Monsters, Inc is going to direct Lou, which will probably be released in front of Cars 3 next June, although this hasn’t been confirmed.

Many readers will know that before Pixar’s Brave was complete, its original director Brenda Chapman was removed from the project. However, Chapman and new director Mark Andrews would go on to win an Oscar for the film. What has Chapman, who was also once the head of Disney’s story department and the first female director of a big-budget studio feature ( DreamWorks’ The Prince of Egypt) been up to since Pixar?

Every year when Autodesk releases its latest version, it faces a barrage of critical feedback. This has been the case for a number of years, including 3ds Max 2014, mainly due to the lack of useful features and an apparent refusal to implement some of the most requested features over at Autodesk Uservoice.

The Disney studio of the Thirties through the Fifties is a magical bygone era, far from perfect but utterly unique in the level of craftsmanship and drive for quality exhibited by the artists who worked there. That atmosphere was created entirely by one individual: the company’s namesake, Walt Disney.

A few months ago I did a post on a ‘History of Disney Owls‘ and it is one of my favorite posts. For a girl who normally does opinion pieces it was fun to do something creative and different. So I have been trying to think of what would be a good follow-up and finally landed on bears. Disney has had a rich tradition of bears, even having a movie called Brother Bear. Some bears have been humorous like Baloo in The Jungle Book and others have been fierce and scary like in Fox and the Hound.
