It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Watching films from physical media may well still have huge advantages even in a world of Netfllix and Amazon. Here's why you shouldn't ditch those DVDs and Blurays just yet.

And you thought your computer was expensive! If you’ve only been in the industry for the past 10 or 15 years and your idea of a post production facility is an office with a few iMacs, then you have no idea what sort of fun you’ve missed. I’ve been fortunate to have been part of […]

Welcome to the first part of my new series on color management. Although it’s exciting to launch a new series, there’s not that much to get excited by when it comes to color management. It’s a topic that I feel I need to cover, rather than something I want to cover. Honestly, color management is [...]Read More... from Color Management Part 1: The Honeymoon is over.

Need to remove black background from your VFX footage? Often with overlay video effects such as snow, fog, glitch and flash fx the files will have black backgrounds. This is due to pre-keyed video formats (which include transparency) having incredibly large file sizes and issues with software compatibility. Sometimes you might have green screen backgrounds, where you would need to use keying effects to create transparency, but in cases where you want to remove a black background the simplest way...

For years now I have professed my love for Kyno as an integral part of a post-production workflow. It doesn’t matter which NLE you use, Kyno can make the whole post-production process easier as it’s a workflow tool that can do too many things to list here. I first used (and covered Kyno) back in [...]Read More... from An update on Kyno and what might be in store for the future of this fantastic piece of post-production software
