To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Replay: Metadata was supposed to be the new 'promised land' of production. Eventually, it was proposed, metadata would be as essential as the camera itself. So what went wrong?

The rumors were true (do we really get any Apple surprises anymore?) that the new iPhone 13 Pro will get internal ProRes recording and a new Cinematic Mode which is kind of like portrait mode for video but with some intelligent AI to help with selective focus. Because selective focus is cinematic! On the one [...]Read More...

How to scale a 3D scene in After Effects

After Effects can import simple 3D scenes, either natively using the .ma file format, or with 3rd party plugins for formats like FBX. It’s a common workflow practice to import cameras and location nulls from software such as Maya, 3D Studio Max and Syntheyes. However if the scene comes into After Effects at a different [...]Read More...

I was pretty diligent last year making posts here on PVC as the big vendors began slowly dropping out of NBA Show 2020 as the pandemic was taking hold of the US and the world. There was Adobe, and Avid, both bailing on NAB Show last year among many others that eventually caused the cancellation [...]Read More...

Work-from-home, i.e. remote editing, has been on the minds of many. It’s been accelerated for sure by Covid-19, but that’s not the sole reason. There are numerous viable solutions and one […]

What sort of camera has seen the most development over the last decade or two? Big-chip options for single-camera drama? Highly-portable, fixed-lens designs for documentary and news? Maybe stills cameras, which have actually developed an ability to shoot video they previously lacked. Well, no, it’s cellphones, by a country mile, and right now a sort [...]Read More...
