To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I suppose if I were reviewing cameras or software or tutorials or writing books and posting excerpts my numbers could be even higher. But I generally don't do those things - I talk about my job, travel, hobbies and life. And between you and me, writing 200 articles/entries/whatever you want to call them, is a lot.

With the way Final Cut Pro X works, Projects and Events are always shown in their respective library. While this may be helpful, it is not always ideal. Here's how to hide FCPX Projects and Events. Using Finder Unfortunately, there is currently no way to close or hide Projects or Events within Final Cut. But...

The first time I saw something created with After Effects it brought me to tears literally. Part of that emotion came from the soundtrack (Pavarotti's version of Nessun Dorma, which I had never heard), but the rest of it came from the choreography of composited visuals that After Effects made possible in the hands of a talented storyteller.

After Effects Brainstorm: Keyframe Variations

In the third of our rescued movies on Brainstorm, I demonstrate a much less common use of Brainstorm: to randomize keyframes. Brainstorm can essentially randomize any property you can select in the Timeline or Effect Controls panels - including values that vary over time. In this movie, I create a swarming-style animation by duplicating a layer multiple times, and then using Brainstorm to randomize the intermediate Position, Rotation, and Scale values the layers go through.

Final Cut Pro X users have reasons to be optimistic about the future of the software. Apple decided to win back its pro user base, so we can expect many new pro features in the future, and the new update (10.0.8) proves, that Apple takes it seriously, as the new release includes some nice features for professional users (for example support for Sony XAVC codec up to 4K resolution).

La face cachée du montage
