It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

A busy week for news but maybe it will be remembered more by what products ended their life. We take a look at new software products and the end for some old hardware friends.

A lead synth can take a song a very long way. Beats are always welcome, bass is always necessary, but leads tend to provide a hook... And, it’s the hook that we always remember, right?

I have experienced these glitches from Pomfort’s Slog plug in as well as from Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Mojo. This has been reported as well on Redgiant Software’s discussion board as well as other sites.

Abobe Premiere Pro fans: One of the most important components of any quality multimedia presentation is the titles and rolls. Titles and rolls enable the creator of the media to convey information, regardless of content. Whether it’s a simple credit roll or intricate tickers on the screen of your local TV station’s breaking news coverage, the technology is the same: character generation.

Last night (January 30) there was a screening of a little movie called Lincoln. After that screening there was a question and answer session with the film's editor Michael Kahn. We all know Michael Kahn as Steven Speilberg's legendary editor but he's cut for other directors too so any chance to hear a great editor speak is bound to be filled with lots of gems other editors can use as well.

How adding HP workstations to a previously all-Mac shop has made better business sense for one of Burbank's premiere post houses. When I founded AlphaDogs Editorial in 2002, it was because I saw that technological trends made it possible for producers and editors to buy their own equipment and open their own facilities.

I came across a useful article over at Creative Impatience on how effects work in Adobe Premiere Pro. Essentially you have 8-bit and 32-bit effects. How you choose effects the quality of your output. Go have a look if you're serious about total control of your video.
