It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Sometimes when you are doing motion graphics you get stuck animating a lot of text, sometimes you need to just transition from one line to the next, sometimes explainer videos can get boring, well, don't be boring and try this cool technique in After Effects to easily highlight and transition though lines of text. Try it out!!! If you need CC, Get Adobe Creative Cloud: http://cinemaspice.net/adobe-creative-cloud/ to help support this channel. Don't forget to share this video. ...

Before we delve into the actual process, it’s essential to note that both of these platforms are completely different beasts regardless of the fact that they do share loads of common features. I’m sure you heard a lot of dreaded stories where editors have spent countless hours on figuring out a feasible workflow that will eventually help them to bypass all the possible complications and flaws that may occur while moving projects from one NLE to the other and vise verse. The truth is, there i...

WorkBench.tv’s Joe Clay was reminded of a technique he used a while ago, by noticing the new Photoshop Splash Screen. Joe shows how you can create and animate something similar to the tiny planet effect. This however, is more of a tunnel world effect in After Effects. Fifty50 (Formerly CreativMotion) posts a look at creating a really cool effect infecting points using Side FX Houdini, VEX and the Solver SOP. Infected points can infect other points in the vicinity. The effect will have some points take over, or “infect” other points and spread to the next nearest points, until all the points have been taken over The Post Infecting Points in Houdini With VEX originally appeared and published on %%BLOGLINK%,by lesterbanks

Thursday, September 15, 2016 6 to 8pm, Chris Paul of Post Office Video presented "Closed Captioning and Subtitling Your Films." Chris discussed Closed Captions… Open Captions… Subtitles… We see them on TV programs, DVD’s, streaming media and foreign films. They are required by the FCC on programs longer than 15 minutes and strongly recommended on anything shorter. Should you be putting them on your projects? How do you make them?
