It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The commander in Cinema 4D will allow you to create any type of object in C4d, simply by typing. This can be a huge workflow change, saving time in searching and clicking to create elements in your scene. The one issue with the Commander, is that it can’t create Xpresso nodes. If you are the nerdy type and like to use expressions in most everything you do, then the QCmds plugin is for you.

A couple of months ago we were introduced to MochaBlend, an effort from Good Spirit Graphics to provide an integration of Mocha tracking software in Blender. The goal of the MochaBlend project was to be able to use Mocha corner pin, shape and camera solve data right inside of blender.

The post notes that the lighting effect can happen in real life when you are taking a photograph of a light source that is much brighter than the surrounding environment.

In a post SoftImage world, Javier Meroño offers a Side FX Houdini orientation for Softimage ICE users. To me Houdini would be the most loci gal connection for the people left hanging by the news that SoftImage will no longer be made or supported After this latest version 2015. It would be the closest thing to SoftImage’s ICE environment, being that Houdini is a completely procedural application.

An uneven green screen due to poor lighting or a trashed backdrop can now be rectified with a bit of workflow automation. Jae Tools launches a new After Effects tool, Screen Equalizer, a tool that will help you with problematic green screen problems. Screen Equalizer for After Effects is a chromakey screen leveling plugin that can assist with uneven green screen lighting or with wrinkled backdrops.

By default you are able to create new layers in After Effects quite easily. This doesn’t mean that this can’t be improved upon. What if you are the type that likes to build out everything you will need for a project before stating to work on it?

Use Nuke for motion graphics? Why not. It is not something that comes readily to mind when someone mentions Nuke, but being a high end compositor, with a true 3D environment – why not? Even though it doesn’t really have an animation timeline close at hand, motion graphics style animations are possible.
