It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

When society falls and the world crumbles, all that is left is humanity. But can we still be here when nothing else is? Or are we just remains of ourselves?

Director Danny Boyle filmed Steve Jobs in three different formats: 16mm, 35mm, and digital. That evolution of formats, Boyle says, is meant to show Jobs’ transformation from young computer rebel to the man behind the sleek and sexy Apple machines we know today.

It got me thinking about what the five best "punctuation marks" in film might look like. I wanted to assemble a video essay with a rapidfire list of nominees of great moments of editing-as-punctuation in film. But as I started putting it together, the project grew into a twofold piece: an analysis of and response to Schulz's article as well as an attempt to spur new insights about editing by examining it through the metaphor of punctuation.

On Fridays, we share our favorite user-created videos that relate to a challenge we’ve set out the previous week. The challenge can be a theme, inspirational words, a prop or line to incorporate into your video, a story prompt, or a filmmaking concept to consider. This past week’s challenge was to create a video that showcased creative work and play. Get inspired by the multimedia talents and artistic practices of a few Premiere Clip users in the gallery below! UP NEXT: SUMMER! ...

Can movement tell a story? Sure, if you’re as gifted as Akira Kurosawa. More than any other filmmaker, he had an innate understanding of movement and how to capture it onscreen. Join me today in studying the master, possibly the greatest composer of motion in film history.

Do changes in technology demand a different approach in the craft of writing? Or do the best stories still come in classic form? Here's my research as a doubtful enthousiast, very much interested in the storytelling potentials of new platforms and the masterpieces of the future it will eventually lead to.
