It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

At some point I lost track of (and most interest in) all the hand-wringing articles about Photoshop and body image. Even so, I found this talk by model Cameron Russell interesting. She’s unusually sharp (her mom founded ZipCar, it turns out) and compares images of her with the real person.

They’re not quite trailers, but two new videos featuring footage and updates on Star Trek Into Darkness have come online. The first is an 18-minute video called ”Secrets From Inside Bad Robot” which takes the viewer on a tour through the mythic production company, with a strong focus on its editing bays and workflow.

Every friday we post a few interesting videos to enjoy for the weekend. This friday, I am pleased to share some incredible footage. For those that don’t know, Sally Menke was Quentin Tarantino’s editor since Reservoir Dogs. Tragically, she died in 2010 and without any in-depth interviews or insight into her working process...

Thank everyone and all the videos. I got so many comments and I read all of them, I did a lot of research after that video asking for advise and I made some changes to the list.OK, I have never done a computer build before, so many of you wrote in that I have to try it, it is easy they say, well let's see how easy it is. If you are watching this to know how it is done you might turn this video off now, I have never done this before.

Sally Menke was a fabulous editor who was well known for her work with the infamous Quentin Tarantino. She’s certainly one of my biggest influences as a lady in the film industry, but it’s clear that her technique transcends any of that stuff. In any case, this team was a match made in heaven! Anyone can go out and buy a computer system, but to truly get something that is customized for video editing, and won’t cost you a bundle, you’ll probably be looking at buying the parts yourself and putting it together. We’ve got our very own Hackintosh guide to help you build a computer specifically designed to handle Mac OSX, but your options are certainly less limited if you’ve decided that you just want to build a Windows PC.
