It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

You know the saying, "It takes a village"? Usually, that's in reference to raising a child, but it absolutely holds true for the visual effects (VFX) crew behind Marvel juggernauts like "Black Widow." In this case, their "baby" is the movie itself and the "village" is made up of hundreds upon hundreds of hardworking artists who masterfully create all the breathtaking visuals — both obvious and invisible — that fans tend to take for granted. You can get a sense of just how many individuals a...

The motion picture academy has made it a little easier to predict the winners this year by combining Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing into one category: Best Sound. Both sound mixers and sound editors are recognized in the combined category. Up to six statuettes will be awarded to one production sound mixer, two supervising sound editors and three re-recording mixers. Last year’s inaugural winner of Best Sound was, appropriately enough “Sound of Metal.”

When it comes to predicting the Oscar winner for Best Film Editing, you can’t go wrong by looking for the movie with the most cuts. Past winners “The Bourne Ultimatum” (2008), “Mad Max: Fury Road” (2016) and “Ford v Ferrari” (2020) included high-octane action sequences with frenetic cutting. And a slew of other champs — including “Saving Private Ryan” in 1999, “Black Hawk Down” (2002), “The Hurt Locker” (2010), “Hacksaw Ridge” (2017) and “Dunkirk” (2018) — h...

When supervising sound editors Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van der Ryn returned to the world of “A Quiet Place” for the blockbuster film’s sequel, director John Krasinski immediately gave them a new challenge. Rather than picking up with the events of the first movie – which takes place in a world where aliens that are hyper-sensitive to sound invade Earth and proceed to snuff out any human being who dares to even clear their throat – “A Quiet Place Part II” opens on the day of the invas...
