When editor John Gilbert, A.C.E., was presented with the opportunity to work on the new film Chasing Mavericks, which opens October 26 through 20th Century Fox, it was not just the subject (big-wave surfing) or the story the apprenticeship of famed surfer Jay Moriarity) that appealed to him. It was the prospect of collaborating with director Curtis Hanson.
