To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Man...what is UP with Avid lately? Three major releases of the software in just one year? And all with major feature enhancements. OH...and all with a very low upgrade cost...$350. It wasn’t 5 years ago that upgrades were 1-2 years apart, and cost thousands of dollars.

My good friends at Automatic Duck have been churning out timeline translation tools for editors for many, many years now - in fact, any one who edits on multiple editing platforms knows very well what the Duck brings to the table. If you need to move your content back and forth between Avid, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, you know the nightmare that can be. And you also know by know the sanity-restoring qualities of Automatic Duck.

The world has changed to the point where virtually anyone who really wants to can grab a camera and some editing software and create their own film and tv content. As a filmmaker, videographer, or film/tv editor you probably know how to push the buttons on your editing system of choice. Let’s face it, any trained monkey can push buttons. In the middle all the button-pushing, it might not always be clear when to push the buttons... and more importantly why.

From fxguide – BlackMagic buys da Vinci

Word on a big sale in the post-production industry seems to have broken Labor Day evening that Blackmagic Design is buying da Vinci. Most everyone in post has heard of Blackmagic Design (their convertors and capture cards like the DeckLink and Intensity or the new UltraScope) but I’m often surprised how many are not familiar with da Vinci. da Vinci makes high end color grading and film restoration systems.
