To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Rise of the Preditor

http://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2011/05/13/rise-...

Producer + Editor = Preditor. It's a word that seems to generate derision from many traditional, professional editors. The concept that one person can and should handle all of the aspects of post is characterized as a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none.

I checked out the Virtual NAB show today, and it was everything I feared it would be; a collection of videos and materials you might expect to find on the web anyway, a few interactive chats, and not much else.

Useful Tools for Editors: Caffeine

The tiny little free utility ... is there anything better? Caffeine, not to be confused with the more expensive kind that works its magic on you, is one such utility that serves a single purpose: it prevents your Mac from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen or starting screen savers.

FCPX Not As Cheap As We Thought

May 12, 2011, 03:57 PM

http://www.motionvfx.com/mblog/final_cut_pro_x_not...

If you compare the price of Final Cut Pro X to, let's say Adobe Premiere CS 5.5 which is priced $799, it seems that Apple's suite with its price of $299 will be much cheaper. However according to NoFilmSchool website the amount we will have to pay for the new Final Cut Pro is not quite as groundbreaking if you assume that Apple is simply breaking out the components of Final Cut Studio into an a la carte sales model through the App Store.

I have been using PluralEyes for my Final Cut System ever since I purchased my Canon 7D last year. I have also had the pleasure of working with PluralEyes on my Media Composer System. In both cases, I really like the software. It helps me fix the one problem that I have with DSLR video – the need for second source audio.
