It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

FreshDV just posted an excellent closer look at Final Cut Pro X. It shows a lot of the new features that aren't exactly easy to understand without seeing. The new magnetic time line is very impressive. Seeing all of the different options involved in each clip looks quite useful.

I've just returned from the tenth anniversary Final Cut Pro Supermeet, that raucous and always entertaining and informative gathering of Final Cut Pro users held as an evening event during NAB. This year, in front of some 1,400 attendees, Apple chose to announce its forthcoming update, Final Cut Pro X. Billed as a sneak peak, this hour-long demo began with the obligatory history of FCP, its ground-breaking features and impressive list of users in every production realm from documentary to...

I wish to continue my notes about developments in large-sensor cameras, but of course the magnesium-powder newsflash sucking up all the oxygen at NAB today is Apple's stealth sneak peek at Final Cut Pro X last night.

The Avid booth at NAB is alive every moment. Demo stations wrap around the booth and customers have access to some of the best product specialists in the industry demonstrating Avid solutions first hand; explaining how they operate in some of the most demanding professional environments in the business.

There was also Adobe Premiere, and that was OK too, but very few professional editors were using it. Eventually Sony bought a small company in Wisconsin and took over their nascent editing program, which was called Vegas.

Apple hasn't posted any official acknowledgement of last night's demonstrations of Final Cut Pro X on their website, and so everyone on the internet is speculating based on lists of features rather than seeing the presentation. Until Apple gets official with any such announcement, then, the next best thing to an official video is an unofficial (kind of shaky) video of the presentation. Note that In my liveblog of the even I noted, editors are crazy, and you'll see that to be the case based on

At the risk of overkill, here's some nice nearly complete video from Emmanuel Pampuri on the Supermeet Apple Final Cut X presentation. By the way, Google Chrome will automatically translate the pages from French to English for you if want more than his video embedded here.
