It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Due to an unfortunate trademark controversy with a post house in Minneapolis, the Splice Here blog will shortly be rechristened Splice Now. I’ll be doing a minor redesign to go with the name change, but in other respects, the blog won’t change. The content will continue to be a mix of technical tips and thoughts on digital editing...

No two films present the same challenges for an editor and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is no exception. Kirk put it this way, "The whole film was a challenge because stylistically there are so many different scenes. The biggest challenge for us came in the first three reels, because there is no lead performance during that entire time." Angus went on, "In this period of the film, the Benjamin Button character is a composite of a body actor and a CGI face. When we started, we only...

A Tribute to Two Trailblazing Editors: Dede Allen, A.C.E., and Sam O’Steen, A.C.E., moderated by Bobbie O’Steen with panelists Jerry Greenburg, A.C.E., and Carol Littleton, A.C.E., was a genuine treat. From tales of what it was like to work with Dede Allen and Sam O’Steen to analyzing scenes from Bonnie and Clyde and The Graduate, it’s not often that you get this level of candor, insight, analysis and humor.

In this week’s show, Terence and Philip discuss the politics of Industry Award Shows. Why should we care? Is there an alternative or does there even need to be one? If not awards, how do we judge skills, with a divergence down memory lane to the "Gunsmoke" footage and similar exercises. How do we judge the work of an editor? And only one reference to the "NLE from Apple"!

Even though many NLE vendors are integrating the ability to import AAF and XML project formats, Automatic Duck remains the leader in timeline translation. The company started in 2001 with Pro Import for After Effects. The main goal at that time was to move Avid Media Composer sequences into After Effects for advanced compositing work.
