To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

So, for those who haven’t been following long at home, this is the third creative controller that I have put together. I promise this isn’t going to become a "Combine X with Y and use it to control Final cut Pro!" blog. This one is clean and simple so I figured I’d put it up and share how it works.

Many thanks to all the PVC readers that responded to my anguished plea for color correction help! You can see the before and after results above. Not perfect, but good enough for my purposes.

The 2010 NAB Convention had the Post Production world buzzing about the Three A's of the Industry: Apple, Adobe, and Avid. Well, really more Adobe and Avid since they were actually at the show and had something to demonstrate.

Useful Tools for Editors: FotoMagico

Saying that, as an editor, you might need to create "animated slideshows" sounds a bit amateurish, and home video-ish. I much prefer to say I have to pan and zoom some photos or, at the very least, animate stills. The Ken Burns Effect was nice for a while but ever since Apple added the term to iMovie, referring to it now sounds amateurish.

"On any career path there’s getting started, and then there’s getting started right. Imagine you’re a young film editor named Michael R. Miller, you’re looking to get a foothold in feature films, and like anyone just starting out in his chosen field you’re probably willing to take almost any job for the experience and the typeface on your CV.

Embarrassed of Edits

I once cut a piece for someone and was completely disgusted with how it turned out. I was booked on to another show and left the first job (ran out of budget) for another. The director proceeded to finish the rest of the show by themselves...

BOSTON SUPERMEET INFO

If you’re in and around Boston this Friday then you may want to make some time for the First Ever, First Annual Boston SuperMeet. As is the case with all SuperMeets there’s a great lineup for the even and lots of prizes for the world famous raffle. A few of standouts IMHO: Mitch Jacobson will be discussing mulitcamera madness and discussing his new multicam book (which I had the pleasure of contributing to if only a bit)...
