To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Avid MC5 A Frogs Eye View

OK, I am NOT going to say that Avid Media Composer 5.0 is a "game changer." Mainly because I hate that term. And I don’t think that it is changing the editing game. But, what it is doing is adding more tools to make it a better application. Hmmm...well, I might actually have to change my thoughts on the term "game changer," because it is actually changing the game, just not the game you all are thinking about. The game Avid is changing is the one it has been playing with it’s user base.

Essential Tools for MC5

Today is the day when one of the bigger announcements from NAB 2010 hits the streets (at least it’s supposed to be up for download this afternoon). To call Avid Media Composer 5.0 a useful tools for editors is a bit of an understatement I suppose ... kind of like calling a wrench and socket set merely useful for a mechanic.

Dirty Editing

I got your attention didn’t I? So what’s dirty editing? I don’t think there is an actual term coined for what I’m about to talk about. I’ve heard it referred to as checker-boarding but I’m still not quite sure that grasps the concept enough. So I’m going to call it dirty editing.

I love Macs. They’re like my car. I put the key in the ignition, turn it, and it starts. I don’t need to hunt down drivers for all the components that come with it when it arrives from Apple, because Apple takes care of all that.

REVIEW - Avid’s Media Composer 5

June 9, 2010, 08:15 AM

http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/editingpost...

The editing world has become a strange place. For professional editing applications, we have Apple and Adobe with their flagship bundles Final Cut Studio 3 and Creative Suite 5 respectively (and yes, there is Vegas, but I do not consider it to be a professional editing application as none of the major broadcasters are editing with it), and then there is Avid, with their flagship editing application, Media Composer. Avid, and Media Composer, have been around a long time.
