To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

What are the big items that have caught my eye watching Twitter feeds and reading Press Releases on Day 1 of NAB? Here are my (purely selfish) top three...

Avid AV Working together

Hi everyone! As we kick off NAB 2010, the new consolidated website is one of the first big indicators of the "one Avid" transformation. In addition to this visible change in the way we market our products, we're also reorganizing the way we work internally to allow us to make our audio and video products work better together. In fact, for the first time, we're forming a dedicated engineering team with members from both the Pro Tools and Media Composer groups. The charter of this team will be...

Welcome to CS5

CS5 is finally public, and, in all my time at Adobe, I haven’t been this excited about a release. It’s like Christmas came early. For all the feature descriptions and previews in detail, head straight to the Production Premium home page. Also, check out Adobe TV to view a demo of these new features which I’m sure you’ll love.

NLE Changes and Creating Art Part 2

I was on a project recently where the post facility used it to online/finish a feature film. The turnover was decidedly different and more cumbersome than a typical AVID/FCP show, though I would also say that if SMOKE was the usual route, eventually turnover would actually become simpler than the current standard route.

According to a Twitter post from John Montgomery (johnmontfx), BlackMagic is planning on releasing da Vinci Resolve on Mac OSX for $995. BlackMagic recently acquired da Vinci - September 2009 - which has long been one of the gold standard color correction manufacturers in the world.

CS5 Better, Faster, Bigger

With the announcement of Adobe’s new version of their Creative Suite, CS5, they are delivering a new version of Premiere Pro. This review is based on a beta version of Premiere Pro CS5 but from my time spent working with the program it was much more stable that much of my Premiere Pro CS4 experience, and very fast.

What Else Did Avid Announce at NAB 2010

Two words I never thought I’d associate with Avid are Interoperability and Openness, and yet this has been the theme of Avid’s 2010 announcements. Since the recent rebranding of the five Avid-owned companies as one Avid, the company is using the tag line We’re Avid, are you, and constantly pushed the idea that Avid was open and stood for interoperability.
