To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Avid: Customizing Your Bin

I had to create my own bin settings in Avid so I decided to make a quick little tutorial on how to modify the different columns and headings in your bin in Avid. I like how you can switch back and forth between bins so easily too.

Adobe Lightroom for Video Editors

Video editors and producers frequently have to deal with photos. This is especially true of many documentaries where a large portion of the story consists of still images. No motion film or video was available to preserve that given event.

Avid MC P2 Issues Update

Well, I suspect that the vanishing media doesn’t have anything to do with what version of Avid MC we were running. I suspect that it has to do with the drives that are currently being used. The main drive attached is big Avid SCSI Raid or something...but it is full.

Not sure what to code name the project I am working on. There are times when I can’t reveal the projects I am working on until I can announce an air date. I guess I can call this the "LONG BEACH" job, as that is where I am commuting to.

P2 Issues with Avid MC 4.0

Occasionally media files go missing. This was a big issue that kept happening before I came on board. The company was running Avid Media Composer 2.7.7 and using the IMPORT P2 option. But on occasion media would just go offline, and they’d have to reimport.

In 1987 Bill Warner quit his job at Apollo Computer, Inc. and set up AVID Technology. Within a few short years filmmaking was changed forever. Bill Warner is the man who had the vision, he's the man who made this happen. In this, the second of a five part series, Bill shows an early prototype of the AVID workflow. This was the beginning of what was going to become the tool of choice for a generation of filmmakers.
