To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Every month we try to locate ourselves in a different pub in the Sydney area - and here are the details for the March Sundowner (Sunday 7th March):

Avid to Retire the Liquid Product Line

http://www.studiodaily.com/blog/?p=2778

A post went up today (March 3, 2010) in the Chat with Avid forum over at Avid.com from Avid Executive VP and COO Kirk Arnold about the future of the Liquid product. As a Mac-based Media Composer editor I know next to nothing about this product but I do understand that it has some fairly passionate users. There will be no commentary on this decision as this post is to only inform any Liquid users who might be unaware of this announcement. From the Liquid Update – A response from Kirk at...

It’s no secret that Canon 5Ds are everywhere. They’ve shot music videos, short films, commercials and more Vimeo videos than anyone can imagine. One place where I haven’t heard about a lot of usage (as of yet anyway) is in multicamera concert production.

First, Canon announced a BETA availability date for their EOS Log and Transfer plugin for Final Cut Pro. Well, not a specific date, but sometime in March. This software product will be made freely available for DSLR video users and enables simple and straightforward acquisition of footage from CF cards via Log and Transfer, just like you would with P2, XDCAM, Red, etc.

Why Should You Care About 24p?

March 3, 2010, 11:36 AM

http://www.freshdv.com/2010/03/why-should-you-care...

The Canon 5D MKII 24p update was just announced, and people are flipping out. Now, many people have been using the 5D for video at 30fps (and conforming it to 29.97), and others have been using Twixtor (check the comments) and other tools to conform it to 24p.

Changes to a Cut AFTER Online!

So, that project that I took from FCP and converted to Avid, you know, this, this and this one? Well, after sending off three of five masters, we got notes back. Not QC (quality check) notes like one would expect, but some more online notes like "blur this more, blur that...and blur that," and "the graphics are the old ones, please replace with the new ones, link below, and the font needs to change as well."
