Sony partnered with The All England Lawn Tennis Club to bring Wimbledon in 3D, on the big screen, to viewers worldwide. Matthew Rhodes and Red Bee Media invited us to preview the action of Wimbledon in an exciting advertisement for Sony Wimbledon 3D. For the Wimbledon ad Matthew and the 3D team shot with two Phantom cameras running at 100 frames per second. The cameras were rigged on a technocrane to get the fabulous shots and to maintain a fast change over between shots. In order to maintain the depth required for 3D shooting Matthew used wide lenses and to further add to the excitement the crew lit the players with 2 x 18k lights. The team had to ensure that the best 3D quality shot was taken on set; “after each take, we would run over to the playback tent, stick on the 3D glasses and review the shot in 3D", says Matthew, "once you hear a unanimous 'Ooooo!" from the crew you know you've got your shot". Sony intensified the viewer experience, highlighting the excitement and tension of the final stages of the Wimbledon Tournament. In the same fashion Red Bee Media and Matthew Rhodes created a 3D film with flow and true duck-ability that celebrates Wimbledon in 3D.
