To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Happy 20th Birthday Adobe After Effects!

Happy Birthday After Effects! It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years. While I didn’t know you from birth, you came into my life when you were a couple of years old – just before your new family at Adobe adopted you. Not unlike a toddler in their terrible two’s my first experience with you was a bit overwhelming. Let me explain. My background was graphic design. You were my first move into the world of motion graphics. And for that, I am forever grateful. But I must admit, it took a bi...

Adobe After Effects is celebrating its 20 year anniversary. I’ve only been using it for 17 of those years, but I’m pretty sure I’ve packed about 100 years of use into that time.

On this episode of “5 Minute FX” we find out a great way to have you ghost float down a hallway using garbage matteing and keying, animating the ghost floating, and designing your shot to look like a transparent ghost using rotoscoping and the twitch effect.

Are Project Templates OK to use?

January 14, 2013, 08:33 PM

http://cineblur.com/are-project-templates-ok-to-us...

Many times, especially if you work in the church production world like I do, you are faced with very tight deadlines and have to come up with something stunning with a very small crew. How do you accomplish this without spending your entire week slaving over one small project? Simple, use a project template.

Does it drive you crazy to see somebody use something the wrong way, then declare it doesn’t work? That’s how I feel about the Roto Brush tool introduced in After Effects CS5. This semi-automated tool helps you separate the foreground (i.e. an actor) from a complex background (i.e. not greenscreen) - “all” you have to do is make a couple quick brush strokes defining where those areas are. Well, not exactly.

Trapcode Planet with After Effects

http://nofilmschool.com/2013/01/build-futuristic-t...

2012 saw effects plugin company Red Giant blur the line between advertisement and compelling short film with Plot Device and Time Warp. But as good as both those shorts were, if I’m honest, the demonstrations which really raise my excitement levels are those that are developed in bedrooms with a mighty staff of one.

After Effects Camera Tracking – Moving Blood Hit

I have gotten quite a few questions about how I created the blood hit effect from my bullet hit tutorial where the camera pans across the screen as I am being hit.
