It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Ricks book arrived about two weeks ago and I have used it for a reference guide as there is still holes in my FCPX knowledge base. I downloaded Ripple Training iTunes tutorials but find them not only outdated but tedious to find instant information that only a book can offer.

When the Xserve joined the great server farm in the sky, Mac-minded datacenters everywhere were left without a true rackmountable computer; even the current Mac mini wasn't designed for those kinds of tight spaces.

Apple iMacs As I noted in my previous blog, the iMacs are fast becoming my machine of choice and the newest models are even more impressive than the two we have running. At this time, barring any major announcement from Apple that changes my mind, my plan is to replace the remaining 3 Mac [...]

On the fifth day of the 12 Days of Giveaways we gave away 7toX, which allows you to convert Final Cut Pro 6/7 XML to Final Cut Pro X. But, what if you need to bring a cut from FCPX to FCP7? Luckily, Intelligent Assistance also makes an application that will do that (Xto7); and...

There are many looks packages out there for FCPX, but they don't tackle some of the trickier colour correction problems that editors face. The new $25 HyColour colour grading utility plugin concentrates on getting the colours right.

This morning, Apple updated Final Cut Pro X, Motion, and Compressor, with a variety of bug fixes. Probably the bug fix that would be most valuable to many people – based on the number of emails I received on this – is fixing a problem when trying to burn a single-layer DVD.
