To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Editing for The Nature Conservancy: Escalante

Earlier this year we shared a handful of photos and stories from our experience shooting in the remote and beautiful Escalante region of Utah for The Nature Conservancy. In addition to the still photos, we captured video and interviewed key players in the conservation effort going on in the region. We were tasked with the job of with creating a story that not only highlighted the voices of the people in the region but also starred the Escalante River and the ecosystem around it.

Territory founder and editor Terry King was honored by AICE with the 2014 'Best Automotive' Award for his artful cutting of Cadillac's commercial, 'Monkey Do,' which premiered during the broadcast of this year's Winter Olympics. Territory set up shop in LA for the project, allowing King to work closely with the director and client on the commercial. After completing the majority of the cutting on the coast, King brought the elements back to Territory in Detroit, where he tweaked the spot.

Interview with 12 Years a Slave Editor Joe Walker

It’s not often that Hollywood’s stars publicly recognize the great stewardship that an editor of a film has of their performance. But it’s a long journey between what an actor emotes in front of a camera and the reception of that performance by an audience. The director certainly has a strong influence on that performance, but the editor (with the director’s guidance) is the final gatekeeper of the performance the audience sees and the context in which it’s seen.

To 4K or Not to 4K - A PVC Roundtable Discussion

February 28, 2014, 10:42 AM

http://provideocoalition.com/pvcexclusive/story/to...

Various members of the ProVideo Coalition weigh in with their opinions around 4K. Do professionals need to shoot, edit and deliver at 4K because of the perceived benefits? Do consumers want to watch something at 4K because they're really able (or think they're able) to tell the difference between 4K and HD? Or should moving to 4K (and eventually 8K) just be accepted as inevitable?

Final Cut Pro Post Production for the Coen Brother

January 20, 2014, 02:54 AM

The Coen brothers tackle post with a workflow that is specific to them. I had a chance to dig into that world with Katie McQuerrey, who is credited as an additional editor on Inside Llewyn Davis. McQuerrey started with the Coen brothers as they transitioned into digital post, helping to adapt their editorial style to Apple Final Cut Pro.
