To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In April 2006, I had the privilege of interviewing legendary film editor Dede Allen at the Gallery Theater in Hollywood. For some odd reason the tapes were misplaced and only resurfaced recently. In this, Part 1 of our evening with Dede Allen, we talk about her early career (15 years) as a sound editor, and her first big break as a picture editor on the film

A few months into my postproduction hiatus and I have realized something that has change in me in the last few years. I'm really comfortable with being wrong. So, as I stated in my previous post that I was going to pay the bills the old fashion film ways; union film lighting. As I rubbed shoulder with my union brothers and catch up on old times...

For many editors, receiving the golden statuette during an Emmy Creative Arts Awards ceremony for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series would represent the peak of a successful career. For Sue Federman, this was her second Emmy from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for cutting the same show, How I Met Your Mother.

Director, Robert Zemekis has returned to live action with the contained, but powerful, character-based drama, Flight, a story about an alcohol and drug addicted pilot whose extraordinary flying skills save his passengers from almost certain death when his plane malfunctions and crashes. The success of the story hinges on the performance of Denzel Washington. The Oscar-winning actor does not disappoint with his complex and nuanced characterization. That performance formed the basis for the editin

Ken Burns on the "Ken Burns Effect"

November 14, 2012, 09:20 PM

http://www.pbs.org/pov/blog/2012/11/ken-burns-on-t...

Ken Burns' name is eternally tied to the American historical documentary. Ask anyone what they think of when you mention his name, and they'll refer to the Ken Burns Effect, that technique he employs in all his films whereby the camera pans sideways over a photo and then zooms in. Accompanied by a charming musical score and folksy narration, the photo unarguably comes to life.

Captain Kirk is my favourite in all of the Star Trek franchise--fortunately the editing is consistently excellent as well. Let's take a closer look! Be sure to tell me your suggestions for next time: Wolverine Fight Scenes!
