To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Why I love Lightworks

Some people say everything comes to you through the eyes, and with Lightworks, that was definitely true. Double click the shortcut and, wait for splash-screen, enter the workspace aaaand... nothing! Nothing except the toolbar, the onscreen console, and the project card (now called the import panel). So clean and minimalist. Oh, and the shark. A shark! That did it for me.

Plural Eyes 3: Slick Sound Syncing

More than one camera and perhaps multiple audio recorders as well, with none starting and stopping simultaneously: a common scenario for moviemakers, music video shooters and documentary producers working on a small team. NLEs have synchronisation features, but they're basic at best.

The latest version of Lightworks for Windows has been in private Beta for some time, and has reached the stage when it can be released for public Beta testing. The new Beta includes support for Blackmagic I/O as well as improved import times through a new ability to link to audio rather than copy it locally. AVCHD/MP4 files (MTS/M2TS) can now be transcoded for use in the Free version.

The art of Motion Tracking

http://www.redsharknews.com/post/item/206-the-art-...

Convincing alignment between the apparent motion in the frame with the motion of an inserted, unreal visual effects element was simply beyond the sort of precision a human being can achieve, even given an animation stand and a stack of paper with punched registration holes, and even if it's OK for the job to take a week.

Lightworks Linux Release Limited to Select Few

October 31, 2012, 09:41 AM

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/10/video-editor-li...

Editshare, the company behind the video editor, announced October 30th as the day Linux users would finally be able to get their hands on the app. But one key cavea affecting that release doesn't seem to have been communicated very well: the alpha is only available to a handful of people.
