To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Studio’s Top Stories of 2012: Part Two

December 28, 2012, 03:05 PM

http://www.studiodaily.com/2012/12/studios-top-sto...

One of my favorite tasks at the end of every year is digging into StudioDaily's analytics and tallying the pageviews for the most popular stories we published in the last 12-month period. The traffic stats always yield an interesting mix of content, from product reviews and case studies to NAB news and business stories. They reveal what we've been spending a lot of time thinking about in the last year and, sometimes, they reveal what we'll still be considering in the next one. Here's part 2...

FCPX: How to Get Better Encoding Results

December 28, 2012, 02:22 PM

When you compress video for on-demand streaming, you primarily care about three things; quality, quality and… let’s see, oh yes, quality. If you’re been encoding H.264 video with Apple Compressor using the codec that Apple provides, you definitely haven’t been optimizing the quality of your video.

Event ManagerX eases the pain of editing

December 23, 2012, 04:17 PM

http://www.danmccomb.com/posts/2443/event-manager-...

My partner Lisa and I have just emerged from a marathon two weeks of editing our feature-length documentary, Beyond Naked. Too much of that time, I am pained to say, was spend loading and unloading events and projects. Final Cut Pro X has issues after more than dozen or so large events are loaded (our film drew on 2.5 terabytes of proxy media alone, so loading the entire film at once was completely out of the question).

A Whole Lot of Unrelated Stuff

One of the problems with writing a weekly newsletter is that, while it is easy to write detailed articles of a single subject, it is hard to write about interesting things that don’t require a lot of space. But every day, I get announcements from developers and comments from readers that are really cool, but the newsletter doesn’t have an easy way for me to share them.
