It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The media management and quality control handled by the digital imaging technician and post house is nearly universally vital in modern filmmaking, where each digital camera brings its own varying formats, workflows, and quirks. This need for DITs and post houses, however, may evaporate just as quickly as it has arisen — at least according to the predictions of Michael Cioni.

Hollywood post-production powerhouse Modern VideoFilm has chosen a UTAH-400/XL routing switcher from Utah Scientific to serve as the core of its infrastructure in its new 96,000sq-ft facility in Burbank, CA, which is the headquarters for its multi-city operation. Modern VideoFilm is using the new router to interconnect the facility's equipment and systems that record and monitor SDI video with embedded audio and timecode.

As soon as the MAY-JUN 12 issue of CineMontage — featuring "The 75 Best Edited Films" as selected by Editors Guild members — arrived in mailboxes, readers’ comments immediately ensued: Why was (insert title of your favorite film here) not included? Did Rope actually make the list, or is that a joke? Was it really possible that Citizen Kane was not number one? But the overwhelming question, from a curious film scholar's point of view: Why were there no films chosen from the 1930s — the on...

Just two days before the premiere of The Hobbit, Peter Jackson's latest foray into the Tolkien universe, the film's post-production team was still hard at work, tweaking, assembling, even adding new animations and effects up to the very last minute.

Well, I'm done with A HAUNTING. I sent off my last episode a couple weeks ago. The good news is that the ratings started out good, and only got better and better. So that means that another season is a strong possibility. Although if it happened it might not be for a while...
