It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

You want to start your journey in video editing. Or you are already familiar with other video editing programs and want to give Final Cut Pro X and try and make it the editing program to use for your videos. And the big question comes up: How to use Final Cut Pro X?

As I was making some final edits to a 10-minute long video project, an ad for the new Hawaiki AutoGrade color correction plug-in for Final Cut Pro X (Through Noise Industries FXFactory for $29.00) popped up in my Facebook feed. Normally, I just ignore these FB ads, but this one received my full attention.

Jordan Smith wrote to us with a link to his article on sharing Final Cut Pro X projects. We liked the article so much, we asked if we could reprint it here on FCP.co. So if more than one editor is going to be working on the same project...

I found the announcement of the ProcutX iPad control surface from Pixel Film Studios interesting. It allows control of FCPX from an iPad using a simplified user interface based on “High-end film editing consoles” including a jog/shuttle wheel.

Pixel Film Studios, a pro film and photo studio that specialize in wedding, sports and commercial production, and whose work has been seen on FX and TNT, also happen to be Final Cut Pro X plug-in and app developers. And they have released PROCUTX, an app that allows you to remotely control FCP X from your iPad. This is pretty cool stuff!

Back in 2005 Lacquer Software released a plug-in for Final Cut Pro through DV Garage called Conduit. It gave users a node -based interface for building complex effects from scratch. Development went silent for a short time, and now it is back as PixelConduit. Bigger and better than ever. It is not for everyone, but for those who need these sort of tools, it can be amazing.

If you’re a trailblazing user of FCPX, 10.0.6 or newer, you may have noticed a bug: rendering your project after using certain effects leads to random frame glitches. According to Aharon Rabinowitz of Red Giant Software, the problem lies with FCPX and Apple. While Apple is aware of the issue, there has been no information on any upcoming patches.
