It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

AJA Video Systems, a long established supplier of technological needs for the post-production industry, recently released a compact lightweight HD/SD-SDI / HDMI Thunderbolt enabled device known as the AJA T-Tap(TM). The AJA T-Tap is a small compact device that supports various resolutions ranging from 10bit SD,HD to 2k video. It also supports audio output from almost any compatible NLE system...

AMD's "Sea Islands" graphics card lineup is set to arrive as the Radeon HD 8000 series in the second quarter of 2013, according to supply chain sources talking to DigiTimes. The Taiwanese website says Southern Islands' successor was originally scheduled to land by the end of the year, but was pushed back as AMD focuses on its ongoing business reorganization. Other reports had pegged the launch for Q1 next year, which would have been in line with this year’s retail launch of the Radeon HD...

It's been a while since TUAW reviewed a hard drive. Recently, G-Technology sent one of their 1 TB G-Drive Mobile USB 3.0/2.0/FW drives (USD179.95) to run through the paces. That relatively low price is a result of not having a Thunderbolt interface, and since all of the new Macs are coming with USB 3.0, I thought it would be a good drive to test out. I don't currently own a USB 3.0-equipped Mac, so the benchmarks listed below were provided by my colleague Erica Sadun.

Not only am I the face of the Audioholics product review videos, I also have the job of editing them together. That's sort of my niche: editing video. And now that everything shoots in HD and the smallest video file can take up over a gig--sorry, gigabyte--hard drive space is a commodity that is both increasingly cheap yet even more increasingly in demand. I recently switched away from a Mac Pro tower to a faster iMac, but with that came a loss of four hard drive slots...

To guess at the kinds of storage options Mac buyers will likely have in 2013 and 2014, you just have to look at the storage industry as a whole. That’s because Apple is relatively conservative when it comes to storage: It doesn't break new ground in the same way it does in, say, displays.

One of the nice things about the Blackmagic Cinema Camera taking forever to ship is that it's allowed me time to slowly acquire the additional tech that this beast requires to run. The big one, of course, is SSD drives.
