It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If you want to start a giant flamewar online, you can always count on three things: HDR, Canon vs. Nikon, Android vs. Iphone, and PC vs. Mac. Try as people may, there still seems to be this lingering mindset that there are big differences in performance/productivity/creativity in owning one versus the other. There is also a great amount of debate that circles when we switch from one to another. For the most part – I get it. We are creatures of comparison, and we love being in tribes.

Many years ago Sound Forge was my go to application for editing audio files. At that time I was mainly recording my band's rehearsals along with other bands live shows using two microphones into a DAT recorder.

To guess at the kinds of storage options Mac buyers will likely have in 2013 and 2014, you just have to look at the storage industry as a whole. That’s because Apple is relatively conservative when it comes to storage: It doesn't break new ground in the same way it does in, say, displays.

As noted by netkas.org and in our forums, the initial beta release of OS X 10.8.3 seeded to developers yesterday contains drivers supporting AMD's latest 7000-series graphics cards, including the high-end "Tahiti" options. The development has naturally sparked speculation that Apple is starting to build in support for graphics cards to be used in the all-new Mac Pro coming in 2013.

How long will you wait for your new MAC PRO workstation? Apple are obviously in no hurry to update their pro product and have already missed the latest round of Intel chips, the E5 Xeon Series. All this non activity poses the question – Are Apple moving away from the pro?

We've been selling a lot of thunderbolt stuff over the last couple months and I've been very pleased with the performance and convenience of the products. Thunderbolt seems to be a big win.

Some readers are asking if the 'late 2012' Mac mini with a Quad-Core i7 processor can match the power of a Quad-Core Mac Pro. Many Mac Pro owners have a keyboard, mouse, and display they like. Shouldn't they save a pile of money and replace their old Mac Pro with a new Mac mini? With the aid of OWC Labs, we are attempting a quick answer using a CPU and a GPU benchmark.
