It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Basic Animation and Rendering: In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe talks about basic animating in Marquee, and shows you why it's better to do your animation there, as opposed to doing it in the 3D Warp tool. He also discusses rendering/saving out your titles, and how simple it is, so you're back up and editing in no time flat!

For those of you coming to Premiere Pro from FCP7, there is a similar preference in Premiere Pro called "scale to frame size". However, there is one notable difference. In FCP7, when you insert a clip into a timeline, the clip is automatically scaled to the dimensions of the sequence, and the scale percentage is automatically set in the Motion tab.

One of my favorite tasks at the end of every year is digging into StudioDaily's analytics and tallying the pageviews for the most popular stories we published in the last 12-month period. The traffic stats always yield an interesting mix of content, from product reviews and case studies to NAB news and business stories. They reveal what we've been spending a lot of time thinking about in the last year and, sometimes, they reveal what we'll still be considering in the next one. Here's part 2...

We have broken off from our Christmas to New Year break to bring you the latest episode of MacBreak Studio, it's a good one. Lots of exporting knowledge from the two guys as they look at more features from the 10.0.6 update.

While I sit at my parents house for the holidays, I thought I’d jump on the blog and keep myself busy. The next installment of the LUT series is on its way, but in the meantime I wanted to talk about Premiere Pro CS6′s merged clips and how they translate through Final Cut Pro XML files to the venerable Final Cut Pro 7.

There is pent up demand for a high-powered NLE designed around a standard layout. Autodesk is trying to satisfy this desire with Smoke 2013. This version is optimized for the Mac interface and operating system and is intended as an easier transition for editors coming from Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro. It gives editors the best of both worlds, with a timeline that functions in a known fashion coupled to node-based effects common to Flame.

In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe shows you how simple it is to not only add drop shadows and strokes to your text, but also how to create true 3D extruded text right within the Marquee Interface.

One of the problems with writing a weekly newsletter is that, while it is easy to write detailed articles of a single subject, it is hard to write about interesting things that don’t require a lot of space. But every day, I get announcements from developers and comments from readers that are really cool, but the newsletter doesn’t have an easy way for me to share them.
